Congratulations! You've got the basics of cutting and sewing sweaters and you've successfully sewn a sweater or two or more. Your seams are smooth and your seam allowances are nicely finished. Now is the time to bring your sweaters to the next level.

In this live online class I'll introduce you to advanced finishes that enclose a sweater edge. We won't construct a sweater in this two-hour class. Instead we'll work solely on the advanced sweater knit bindings that can replace hems or cuffs, or (my favorite place to use them) the neckline. I'm so eager to share these techniques with you!

Here's what you'll learn:

  • How to modify your sewing pattern for best results with this method
  • When to use this type of binding
  • The easy way to determine the correct length and width for the different advanced finishes
  • Where and when stabilization is required

The two-hour class takes place on Saturday, April 24, 2021 beginning at 10:00 AM EDT. This is a Zoom meeting event.

Once you enroll,

you'll be able to enter our class hub, where you can download the list of supplies. Instructions on what to prepare for class will also be here.

This is also where you'll find the Zoom link to enter our room on the day of our class. (I hope you'll return to the hub after the class to post pictures of your work!)

Due to the fact that I want every attendee to feel comfortable participating, the live event will not be recorded. Enrollment will be limited.

And if you just want to observe and take notes during this online class, that's okay too. :)

Olgalyn Jolly,

Your Instructor

Hello! I'm Olgalyn, a knit designer and educator, living and working in New York City. I'm the creator of How to Cut and Sew a Sweater, the only online course dedicated specifically to sewing sweater knits.

After fashion and textile studies at Parsons School of Design and the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), I gained years of experience in the fashion industry leading my own knitwear line and developing stitch designs for leading fashion companies and retailers.

Currently, I develop and produce luxurious sweater knit fabrics for fashion designers, as well as the home sewing community. I teach knitwear design to fashion majors at FIT, and I teach machine knitting at Parsons School of Design. I absolutely love helping people of all ages and skill levels learn the intricacies and the joy of working with sweater knits. Let's sew sweaters together!

Frequently Asked Questions

Since the class won't be recorded, will there be written handouts to help refresh my memory when I get around to using your techniques?

Yes.

My sweater knit cut and sew experience is limited, just a couple of necklines and side seams. Will I be advanced enough for this class?

If you've done a couple of necklines and respectable side seams already, you should be just fine. For those with no experience cutting and sewing sweater knits, I recommend my How to Cut and Sew a Sweater course, self-paced and always available.
